To ensure the best possible racing experience for all our Escapees, we have decided to reschedule the 2021 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon to August 14-15, 2021. We continue to work closely with state and local health officials to safely stage the world-class event you know and love.

Stay tuned for further information on the 2021 Random Drawing registration after the new year.

Update as of October 22, 2020 @ 11am PST:

The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon will return for action on June 12-13, 2021.

Though we usually open registration in October, we are adjusting our 2021 registration schedule. Registration, including the Random Drawing, for all athletes will kick off in early 2021.

We will continue to work with local government and public health officials to operate the event under local and state safety guidelines. We will implement additional safety measures in compliance with the latest guidelines in June 2021, and will communicate a detailed plan to participating athletes prior to the race.

Update as of September 21, 2020 @ 11am PST:

We’d like to thank our community for their patience and support while we work with local municipal agencies to navigate new restrictions and COVID-19 health and safety regulations. We hope to announce the 2021 Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon date and registration details in the coming weeks. Please stay tuned, stay safe, and thank you again for your patience and commitment to Escape in 2021.

Update as of April 20, 2020 @ 7am PST:

2020 ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ TRIATHLON & ESCAPE AQUATHLON OFFICIALLY CANCELED

In light of continued global health concerns regarding COVID-19 and guidance from local, state and federal authorities, it is with heavy hearts we have made the decision to cancel the 2020 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon and ESCAPE Aquathlon scheduled for June 6-7. The health and safety of our participants, spectators and staff remains our top priority, and as such, we could not in good faith move forward with this year’s events.

All 2020 registered athletes will receive an email on Monday, April 20th with further instructions regarding their registration. If you were registered for this year’s race(s), and do not receive an email by the end of Monday, please reach out to info@escapealcatraztri.com for next steps or questions specific to your race entry type (Age Grouper, Corporate, Collegiate, Open Relay, Charity, Deferred from Previous Year etc.).

We will begin working with the city of San Francisco to solidify the 2021 date in the coming weeks, and will update our community via email, social, and this page, as soon as more information is available. Our target date will be the early to mid-June time frame, during which the Escape from Alcatraz typically takes place.

We thank our participants, partners, and staff for their support, and look forward to bringing the ESCAPE community together again and celebrating 40 years of our treasured race in 2021.

Update as of March 21, 2020 @ 7am PST:

COVID-19 EVENT UPDATES

The health and safety of our participants, spectators and staff remains our top priority, and as such we are closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and advice from the San Francisco Department of Public Health and CA Governor Newsom. At this stage, the Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon and ESCAPE Aquathlon will be going ahead as scheduled June 6-7.

If our plans change for any reason, we will be sure to let our community know via email, our website, and social channels.

For clarity, here are the registration possibilities at this time:

  • No Change: Registered athletes can resume preparation for the 2020 event to take place as scheduled, unless otherwise notified.
  • Deferment: See below for the updated 2020 deferment policy, which now includes COVID-19 concerns as an approved deferment submission.
  • Cancellation: Should the event be cancelled due to COVID-19, registered athletes will be given the opportunity to transfer their entry to 2021 or 2022 OR receive a refund of their entry fee (excluding processing & service fees).

UPDATED 2020 DEFERMENT POLICY

See below for our updated 2020 deferment guidelines for the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon & the ESCAPE Aquathlon.

NEW AS OF MARCH 21, 2020

Participants competing as individuals may defer to 2021 or 2022 for medical emergency, COVID-19 concerns, and military order reasons only. Please email us at info@escapealcatraztri.com to request a deferment for any of these reasons.

Relay Team Members, Corporate Escape Team Members, and Collegiate Team Members seeking a deferment to 2021 or 2022 due to COVID-19 concerns should email info@escapealcatraztri.com for further instruction.

For medical emergency, proof of medical injury or condition that prohibits you from competing via a doctor's note must be emailed to info@escapealcatraztri.com no later than May 25, 2020.

Individuals granted a deferment will not be refunded your 2020 entry fee, as this will reserve your slot in the following year.

Individuals granted a deferment to 2021 or 2022 will NOT need to pay an additional deferment fee when confirming their slot in September prior to the year of their choosing.

If the race(s) are canceled in its entirety, we will honor your deferment to the 2021 or 2022 event OR you can elect to receive a refund of your 2020 entry fee (excluding processing & service fees).

CANCELLED AND RESCHEDULED EVENT

Cancellation Policy - Amended March 21, 2020

Should the entire Event be canceled or rescheduled, we will attempt to contact you to inform you of the refund or exchange procedures for the Event. Exact instructions on any canceled or rescheduled Event will be provided via an email sent to athletes.

If the entire Event is canceled, and you purchased your entry through the Escape from Alcatraz website (or otherwise directly from us), athletes will be given the opportunity to transfer their entry to an event the following year(s) (e.x.2021 or 2022). If that remedy does not work for the athlete, we will issue a refund to the credit card, debit card, or other accepted method of payment that was used to purchase that entry into the Event. IF AN EVENT ENTRY WAS PURCHASED THROUGH ANOTHER METHOD, PLEASE CONTACT THE PERSON OR ENTITY FROM WHOM YOU PURCHASED SUCH ENTRY, AS WE WILL NOT REFUND YOU THEREFOR.

Event entries are sold subject to our absolute right to alter or vary the Event without any obligation to make a refund. However, if the Event, or any part of the Event, is materially altered from the pre-planned Event schedule, we may make reasonable efforts to provide an alternative race experience and, where that is not possible, we will issue you a refund to the credit card, debit card, or other accepted method of payment that was used to purchase that Event entry.

If we issue you a refund for an Event entry due to a canceled or rescheduled Event, we will issue a refund of face value paid for the entry (if any) (or, for a discounted entry, the discounted entry price paid), as applicable. In no event will delivery charges, service fees or any other amounts be refunded. If a refund is issued, where reasonably possible, it will be issued using the same method of payment that was used to purchase the Event entry. We will not be liable for travel or any other expenses that you or anyone else incurs in connection with a canceled or rescheduled event.
