2018 ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ™ TRIATHLON RETURNS TO SAN FRANCISCO ON JUNE 3
SAN FRANCISCO (August 29, 2017) – IMG, the global leader in sports, events, media and fashion, today announced the 38th annual Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon take place on Sunday, June 3, 2018, in San Francisco. The random drawing for San Francisco’s most iconic race will officially open on Thursday, September 14, 2017. Limited to 2,000 participants, athletes are encouraged to register early for the triathlon.
Top triathletes will take over the streets and waters of San Francisco for the 2018 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Exploring the beauty of San Francisco, triathletes will embark on a grueling 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the shoreline of Marina Green, an 18-mile twisting bike ride through the Presidio, and an eight-mile trail run out to Baker Beach and up the infamous 400-plus step Sand Ladder. Fans can experience the excitement at the Marina Green, where the swim starts and ends, as well as where the athlete transition area and finish line are easily visible.
New this year is the ability for triathletes to qualify for the 2018 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon by racing in one of the remaining Escape Triathlon Series races: Des Moines Escape Triathlon – September 2-3, Nation’s Triathlon – September 10 and Lake Geneva Escape Triathlon – September 23.
